Dolphins, CB Xavien Howard agree to new five-year extension

He gets the most guaranteed money for a cornerback in NFL history.

The Miami Dolphins have had an incredible offseason, to this point, as they’ve done their best to improve their roster for the 2022 season, and now they’ve put the icing on the cake.

According to agent David Canter, his client, cornerback Xavien Howard, and the Dolphins agreed to a five-year contract extension. Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson followed up with the money on the contract that will pay him $50.69 million in new money and an average annual value of $25.35 million.

Heading into this offseason, Howard’s contract may have been the most important situation that the Dolphins had on their plate after restructuring last season and agreeing to discuss this year. Miami keeps their top player on the defensive side of the ball and maybe their best player overall despite doing so much this offseason already.

Owner Stephen Ross, general manager Chris Grier, his front office and head coach Mike McDaniel are clearly very serious about competing this season and setting themselves up to, hopefully, do so for a while.
