Dolphins announce their 2021 team award winners

Miami gave out the team MVP, Leadership Award, Courage Award, and Community Service Award.

With just one game remaining in the Miami Dolphins’ 2021 season, the team has announced the winners of their team awards, including the Dan Marino Most Valuable Player, Don Shula Leadership Award, Ed Block Courage Award, and Nat Moore Community Service Award.

Rookie wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was named the team’s MVP. In his first season, Waddle has recorded nearly 100 receptions and 1,000 yards, both are marks that could be hit in Week 18. He set the franchise rookie record for both receptions and yards weeks ago and is closing in on the rookie reception record for the NFL. Without him, this offense wouldn’t have gone anywhere.

The Don Shula Leadership Award was given to defensive back Jason McCourty. This award is voted on by the players to recognize a player who shows excellent leadership qualities on and off the field. McCourty may only be in his first year with Miami and missed half of it with an injury, but the captain is still making an impact.

Linebacker Elandon Roberts won the Ed Block Courage Award. This award is given out by the team’s training staff and, according to the team “symbolizes professionalism, great strength and dedication.” Roberts has had a solid season after ending 2020 with a knee injury.

The Nat Moore Community Service Award, which is given to a player who makes an impact in the Miami area, has been given to rookie linebacker Jaelan Phillips. Phillips has been involved in many charitable ventures in his short time in the NFL and has clearly affected his community in a positive way.

It’s great to see these players be awarded with such a great honor.
