Doc Rivers says Sixers have a plan to cover not having Matisse Thybulle

Doc Rivers says the Philadelphia 76ers have a plan to cover the loss of Matisse Thybulle when they head to Toronto.

PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers have a 2-0 lead in their Round 1 series with the Toronto Raptors and now the series shifts to Toronto for Game 3 on Wednesday and this now presents a hurdle that the Sixer must overcome.

They will not have their best perimeter defender in Game 3 nor in Game 4 as Thybulle cannot enter Canada due to his vaccination status. Thybulle only had one dose of the Pfizer vaccine so therefore he is not fully vaccinated.

After having five points and three blocks in their Game 2 win on Monday, replacing his defensive acumen is going to be tough. He does such a good job of harassing whoever he has to defend, but coach Doc Rivers and the team say they have no choice and they are ready to be without him and cover his loss.

“We just have to,” said Rivers. “We have a plan and we just have to. We don’t have him.”

Without Thybulle, this could open the door for a guy like Furkan Korkmaz to make his case to get back in the rotation. He has essentially been out of it for a few months now, but both Games 3 and 4 can give him a chance to show Rivers that he deserves more playing time.
