Doc Rivers reveals Sixers short-handed at the guard spots at practice

Doc Rivers reveals the Philadelphia 76ers are pretty shorthanded at the guard spots as they got back to work at practice.

CAMDEN, N.J. — The Philadelphia 76ers are in the middle of four days off before they take on the Milwaukee Bucks, which offers the team an opportunity to rest and heal from injuries.

For example, the Sixers were missing Furkan Korkmaz in Sunday’s win over the Utah Jazz. They were already missing James Harden. Matisse Thybulle is dealing with an ankle injury: He left the win over the Jazz for a bit in the second half.

After two days off, they returned to practice on Wednesday, and coach Doc Rivers had a short-handed guard unit running some live stuff.

“We have a lot of injuries, unfortunately,” said Rivers. “So it’s not been exactly the way you’d want it. You’d love to have Furk out, Matisse has a tweaked ankle, you’d like to have him out. So the second unit, I think Shake’s (Milton) the only guard in the whole unit so it does kind of create issues for that team.”

As far as Korkmaz is concerned, the veteran out of Turkey was playing well in Saturday’s win over the Atlanta Hawks, but he suffered a knee injury in that contest. He missed Sunday’s game, and Rivers isn’t sure how long he will be out.

“Not long, but I don’t know how long,” he said. “I don’t think he’ll be out that long. He may miss a game or two, but I don’t think more than that.”

Rivers was then asked about Thybulle and his participation in practice.

“Matisse was zero for the most part,” he added. “And so was Furk.”

With another day off before getting back at it on Friday, the Sixers will be hoping to have those guys back out there with the team.
