Doc Rivers opens up on emotions of Sixers trading Seth Curry to Nets

Doc Rivers opens up on how emotional it was for the Philadelphia 76ers to trade Seth Curry to the Brooklyn Nets.

Making trades in the NBA is a normal process. Every team in the league will participate in a trade in order to help improve their roster even though they can be emotional at times depending on the situation.

For the Philadelphia 76ers, they made a big deal at the 2022 deadline when they acquired James Harden from the Brooklyn Nets. In exchange, the Sixers sent Ben Simmons, Andre Drummond, Seth Curry, and picks to the Nets.

Sending Curry to Brooklyn was very tough for coach Doc Rivers as Curry was not just an important shooter for the Sixers, but he is also Rivers’ son-in-law. Curry is married to Rivers’ daughter, Callie, and they have two young babies.

Rivers opened up on how emotional that was on “Back On the Record with Bob Costas” (h/t Basketball News):

“Trading Seth, I had to deal with my daughter… who had two young babies. That’s a completely different thing. The night before, because there was a rumor it was going to happen, I get a call from my daughter. ‘Listen! Are you gonna do it or not?!’ And I said, ‘You know, Callie, I can’t…’ [She says], ‘I’M YOUR DAUGHTER!’ I said, ‘Well, Callie, I don’t know. I can’t…’ ‘I’M YOUR DAUGHTER!’ That was a tough one.

“Well, she ended up in Brooklyn and she is the happiest ever. And for me, I can still get in my car and in 90 minutes, I can be in Brooklyn, so it turned out okay.”

Curry and the Nets will pay a visit to the Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday with the return of Simmons being focus, but it will allow Rivers to see his son-in-law as well.
