The Philadelphia 76ers have been dealing with a lot of injuries and COVID issues throughout the 2021-22 season as they try and get some consistency down pat as the season moves forward.
The latest Sixer to deal with an injury is Shake Milton. After a long stay in the health and safety protocols, Milton made his return to the lineup on Dec. 30 and he played in two games before suffering a lower back contusion that has kept him out of the lineup since Jan. 3.
As the Sixers prepared for the Boston Celtics on Friday, coach Doc Rivers gave a grim update on Milton.
“Backs are backs and it seems like this is a pretty significant–not surgical–but he’s still really struggling,” said Rivers. “I don’t really foresee him back any time soon. The fact that I probably can beat him in a race today tells me that he’s a long way away.”
Then there is Danny Green who is out for Friday’s matchup with Boston and he has been in and out of the lineup with a malady of injuries. The latest one is a hip issue that he suffered in Wednesday’s loss to the Charlotte Hornets. This just adds to the list of injuries that he has been dealing with and probably contributes to an up and down season.
“He’s having one of those years,” said Rivers. “At some point, we’ll probably just have to figure out, make sure he’s at 100% or, I don’t know because he said he was feeling great and then he literally comes in for one play and something happens and now he’s out again. That’s a tough one.”
The Sixers and the Celtics will tipoff at 7 p.m. EST on Friday from the Wells Fargo Center.
