Do the Boston Celtics have more at stake this season than any other team in the league? Last season, Boston reached the promised land — the NBA’s biggest stage — only to fall in six games to the Golden State Warriors instead of hanging the long-elusive Banner 18.
Now, the Celtics have produced the league’s best record as the season nears the halfway point. Star forward Jayson Tatum is having a Most Valuable Player-caliber campaign, and star wing Jaylen Brown has elevated his game to, undeniably, an All-NBA level. The only question remaining is what team he ends up on: first, second or third.
With all that going for them, could another team fall from higher heights?
The hosts of the ESPN “First Take” show recently debated whether this was the case.
Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what almost-Celtics assistant coach JJ Redick and former Boston big man Kendrick Perkins had to say.
