Do Giants actually prefer Georgia OT Andrew Thomas?

Rumors are swirling ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft, including one that suggests Georgia OT Andrew Thomas is the New York Giants’ prime target.

The New York Giants are keeping a very close eye on all four top offensive tackles ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft, but which of those four do they rank at the top of their board?

Earlier this week, SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano reported that general manager Dave Gettleman is “in love” with Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs and we all know what happens when Gettleman falls in love.

However, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports that the Giants may actually prefer Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas.

The Giants are digging in on all four of the top offensive tackles, including Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs, Louisville’s Mekhi Becton and Alabama’s Jedrick Wills Jr. But some sources believe Thomas is their preference.

He and Auburn’s Brown are probably the cleanest top-10, big school prospects at the Giants’ pick. Thomas has flown under the radar since Wirfs and Becton wowed in their NFL Combine testing, but Thomas’ stock is rising again as the draft nears.

“Andrew Thomas is the best all-around tackle,” PFF senior analyst Steve Palazzolo said. “The best pass protector. One of the best run blockers. The cleanest pick for the Giants at four if they’re gonna go tackle. He’s played on the left side, on the right side. He’ll fit in right away at right tackle for the Giants.”

Meanwhile, Pro Football Focus has said the Giants would be “reaching” if they were to pass on both Thomas and Wirfs in favor of Becton.

Lost in the recent shuffle has been Wills.

Whatever the case may be, it’s becoming clearer by the day that the Giants are leaning towards offensive tackle with their first pick in the draft. The good news is that there are an abundance of options, which should give Gettleman an opportunity to do what he has never done before — trade down while also landing one of the top guys on the team’s board at a position of need.
