DJ Johnson selected by Carolina Panthers in third round of 2023 NFL Draft

DJ Johnson is the second Duck off the board in the 2023 NFL Draft, going to the Carolina Panthers in the third round.

The Oregon Ducks officially have their second draft pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Defensive end DJ Johnson was selected by the Carolina Panthers with the No. 80 overall pick in the draft, going off the board in the third round. This is a great development for Johnson, who was originally projected to be a Day 3 pick in the draft.

Johnson played for 4 years at Oregon, wracking up 64 total tackles, 15.5 TFL, and 9.0 sacks. He originally moved between offense and defense early in his career, spending some time at tight end. However, once he found his place on defense, it became clear that he was one of the best defensive linemen on the team, and Tosh Lupoi would not let him go back to the offensive side of the ball.

Johnson is the second Oregon player to be drafted this year, with CB Christian Gonzalez going to the New England Patriots with the No. 17 overall pick on Thursday.
