Now with the Buccaneers, Tom Brady will have the luxury of throwing to two of the game’s best wide receivers next season in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, both of whom eclipsed 1,100 receiving yards last and earned Pro Bowl honors.
The dynamic wide receiver duo combined for 2,490 yards last season, almost 200 more than the next duo of Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup of the Dallas Cowboys (2,296). And given their young age and resume of success, you’d think Evans and Godwin would be the hands-down choice for top receiver duo in the league, right?
Well, not according to three NFL Network analysts.
On NFL Total Access, Kurt Warner, Steve Mariucci and LaDainian Tomlinson were recently asked to pick their top WR duo in the league today, and both Warner and Tomlinson went with Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry of the Cleveland Browns, who combined for 2,209 yards last season. Mariucci changed it up a bit by going with Larry Fitzgerald and the newly-acquired DeAndre Hopkins of the Arizona Cardinals.
It’s had to imagine Evans and Godwin getting overlooked here, considering how well they did last year with a quarterback who threw 30 interceptions. If the pair needed any added motivation heading into the 2020 season, here it is.
