Campbell University sports one of the best non-Power 5 baseball teams, making each of the past five NCAA Tournament and winning the Big South in 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023.
The Camels now play in the Coastal Athletic Association, with schools like UNC-Wilmington, Hofstra and College of Charleston.
On Tuesday night, the North Carolina Tar Heels faced another challenging opponent in Campbell. Unlike most early-season weeks, when UNC typically hosts opponents, players and coaches made the hour drive down to Buies Creek on Tuesday night.
Thanks to a 4-run explosion in the ninth inning, which started with Casey Cook’s lightning-fast line drive, the Diamond Heels won 7-3 to secure their sixth-straight victory.

After Cook’s single off Campbell second baseman Chandler Riley brought in the go-ahead run, Anthony Donofrio’s ground-rule double extended the UNC (11-2) lead to 6-3. Designated hitter Roberto Osuna drove in North Carolina’s final run of the night, singling up the middle to drive in Cook.
Star outfielder Vance Honeycutt led the Diamond Heels with three hits, while Cook paced the team with three RBIs. UNC used a combination of six pitchers to nab the victory, with Matt Poston credited for the official victory.
North Carolina will host Pitt to open ACC play this weekend, with games set for 4 p.m. (Friday), 2 p.m. (Saturday) and 1 p.m. (Sunday). The Panthers are off to an 8-1 start this season.
