Alabama senior wide receiver DeVonta Smith has been named the 2020 Associated Press Player of the Year, making him the first wide receiver to win the award, as well as the first member of the Crimson Tide to be the recipient.
Smith, who is in the heat of the Heisman race with his quarterback, Mac Jones, enters the College Football Playoff with 98 receptions for 1,511 yards and 17 touchdowns, not to mention an additional touchdown off a carry and another one from a punt return.
In a short video released by the AP, details show just how unique Smith’s case is in winning the award.

- The first Alabama player to win the award
- Smith an Jones finished in first and second place, respectively. Making them the first pair of teammates to do so.
Smith’s final season with the Crimson Tide has been his strongest, and NFL front offices are most definitely taking notice. With the draft only a few months away, he is seen as high first-round talent.
