Devon Witherspoon fined by NFL for suplexing Rams DB

The NFL continues its hyper-punitive trend this season of doling out fines left and right to players. The latest victim, Seattle Seahawks rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon. During Seattle’s Week 11 game against the Los Angeles Rams, Witherspoon made a critical stop… which was later flagged, and gave the Rams a first down.

See for yourself the truly “vicious” and “dangerous” play Witherspoon inflicted upon Austin Trammell. Clearly, this is “deserving” of such a lofty fine, right?

It is not the first time this year a Seattle Seahawk has gotten a questionable fine from the league. Following their win over the New York Giants, quarterback Geno Smith was fined for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The NFL’s proclivity for handing out extensive fines has been noticed heavily this season. Former Houston Texans defensive end JJ Watt took to Twitter to even go as far as to call it “stealing” from the players. While I don’t think I can go as far as Watt on this one, I understand his – and the players’ – frustration on the issue.
