Ahead of the 2020 NBA Draft, a workout video of Devin Vassell appeared on social media. On the surface, such a video is commonplace before the draft as prospects are busy training but this footage showed a change to his shooting motion, and not a positive change, either.
Vassell entered the pre-draft process projected to be a lottery pick after a strong sophomore campaign at Florida State, in which he averaged 12.7 points and 5.1 rebounds in 30 games played. Perhaps most impressive, Vassell shot 41.5% from 3-point range on 3.5 attempts per game.
Fittingly, the 20-year-old has been touted as a strong 3-and-D prospect given his ability to shoot and defend. So, when he unveiled a new shooting motion recently, the change caught many by surprise as he can be seen aggressively moving the ball further behind his head in the video.

The video, which was shot by Krysten Peek of Yahoo Sports, has since been deleted following the reaction on social media. Still, the change appeared to be a head-scratcher as Vassell had a good shooting form at Florida State that likely only needed minor tweaks.

With the NBA Draft one month away, it is unclear how much impact, if any, the new shooting motion will have on his stock but teams will likely want to see it in person. Teams can now visit prospects in-person and Vassell will likely have quite a few front offices wanting to watch him.
The 2020 NBA Draft is scheduled to take place on Nov. 18.
