Devin Vassell praises Victor Wembanyama for block on Giannis Antetokounmpo

After the San Antonio Spurs’ tough loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, Devin Vassell had some high praise for Victor Wembanyama.

On Thursday night, the San Antonio Spurs took part in what may have been the game of the season, narrowly losing to the Milwaukee Bucks, who were led by Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard down the stretch. Victor Wembanyama put up a great fight, but it just wasn’t enough. Milwaukee earned a 125-121 win.

Wembanyama’s stellar performance was highlighted by an elite showing on the defensive end of the court, and perhaps the best moment of the game was his late-game block on Antetokounmpo at the rim. It was an impressive display of skill that kept the Spurs in the game with a chance to tie things up in the final seconds.

After the contest, Spurs star Devin Vassell spoke about the block, praising Wembanyama for the statement play.

“Giannis wanted to try and dunk it and send a statement,” Vassell said via Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News. “I think Vic sent a statement not only to Giannis, but to the whole league: He’s here, and he’s ready for the moment.”

Wembanayama ended the game with 27 points, nine rebounds, one assist, one steal, and five blocks while shooting 10-of-18 from the field and 2-of-8 from beyond the three-point arc.

As for Vassell, he had himself a game of his own. He put up an impressive 34 points, six rebounds, and four assists while shooting 14-of-21 from the floor and 6-of-9 from behind the three-point line.

The Spurs haven’t won a ton of games this season, but it’s contests like this one that show how bright of a future they have in front of them.
