The coronavirus pandemic has put a halt on activities across the globe.
Social distancing has affected everyone, and the sports world has been significantly impacted by it. Athletes worldwide still have to maintain their workout regimens and bodies throughout this time of uncertainty.
New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty joined a conference call on Wednesday and explained how he’s remaining active.
“It’s something that has been a work in progress,” McCourty said, transcribed by Chris Mason of MassLive. “Fortunately I ordered a Peloton at the beginning of February… no matter the weather, jump on that. But other than that it’s been FaceTiming my trainer and trying to do workouts that way. He’s letting me know some of the things I can get in the house and figuring it out.”
The Peloton bike went from a viral internet joke to a vital piece of equipment through these times of being isolated. At the age of 32, McCourty just signed a new two-year deal with the Patriots and needs to remain active.
He also cracked down in a serious tone and urged everyone to take the precautions and stay home.
“You look at everyone in the medical field who are out on the front lines, still going to work dealing with the virus firsthand, those are the true tough guys,” McCourty said. “I think as much as possible everybody that has a following, social media, any type of status, just being honest with people. Staying at home and doing different things. I’m like everybody else. I’ve got a three-year old and a soon-to-be-two-year old driving me crazy, running around yelling and screaming, but we all have to stay home.”
The NFL’s schedule hasn’t been affected by the pandemic yet, but it’s still a real possibility.
