As the New England Patriots prepare for the 2021 off-season, one of their veteran leaders gave an update on where the 2020 opt-outs stand.
As you recall, the Patriots had eight total players opting out last season due to concern for the coronavirus. Within that list were some key names. Dont’a Hightower, Patrick Chung, Marcus Cannon, and Brandon Bolden were just some of the players who opted out.
McCourty appeared on an episode of the “Patriots Talk” podcast with Tom E. Curran. On the podcast, he discussed some of the names that opted out of last season, and assured Curran that they were all ready to go.
“From my understanding, they’ll all be back,” McCourty said. “B. Bolden, High, Chung. I can’t wait. Those are my guys – Cannon. I just can’t wait to be back around those guys. Even outside of football, seeing them every day, seeing their nice faces.”
Last season, it was evident how much those guys were missed on the defensive side of the football. When the 2021 season gets underway, the defense should have better structure than in 2020.
