Athens, Georgia – The 2022 Texas A&M Baseball Team had one of its most season-defining wins on Thursday night, controlling the game both on the mound and at the plate with an 8-1 win against No. 13 Georgia at the always intimidating Foley Field.

Sophomore pitcher Nathan Dettmer (3-2) put on a show, netting 9 strikeouts while allowing only 5 hits and 1 run allowed, lasting on the mound for 8 total innings, both a season and career-long for the youngster. Offensively, Grad Transfer Troy Claunch started out hot, tying the game with a moon shot to leftfield after Georgia initially took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st,  leading the Aggies statistically on offense with a 2-5, HR, 2 RBI day.

After taking a 2-1 lead after a Brett Minnich double sending the base runner home in the top of the 3rd, the lead exploded after a Jordan Thompson double and a Brett Minnich walk, leading to a three-run eventual game-sealing home run by previous SEC player of the week and cycle hitter, Dylan Rock. After two more insurance runs in the top of the 5th, top of the 6th, and top of the 8th, freshman lefty Ryan Prager left the Dawgs scoreless in the 9th, completing the 8-1 Aggie win.

Game Two is set for Friday, April 15th, 5:00 PM Central.
