The Detroit Tigers (29-30) and Texas Rangers (29-30) open a 3-game set Monday. First pitch from Globe Life Field is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Tigers vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Texas leads 3-1

The Rangers have won 5 of their last 6 games and reeled off back-to-back shutout victories against the Miami Marlins over the weekend. Texas cashed as a (+102) road underdog with a 7-0 victory Saturday and followed that up with a 6-0 win as a (-120) favorite Sunday.

Detroit most recently split a 4-game series with the Boston Red Sox, cashing as a (+142) road underdog with an 8-4 win in 10 innings at Fenway Park Sunday. With RF Kerry Carpenter injured, 3B Matt Vierling now leads the Tigers in RBIs (28) as the 27-year-old has been scorching hot at the plate.

Guardians at Rangers projected starters

LHP Tarik Skubal vs. RHP Nathan Eovaldi

Skubal (7-1, 2.01 ERA) makes his 12th start. He has a 0.82 WHIP, 1.5 BB/9 and 10.8 K/9 in 67 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 7 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 8 K in 8-0 victory vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday
  • Sports lowest WHIP and FIP (2.1) in AL

Eovaldi (2-2, 2.84 ERA) makes his 9th start. He has a 1.20 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9 and 9.3 K/9 in 44 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 3 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 2 K in 4-2 win over Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday
  • Was on a pitch count in his last start; did not go on rehab assignment after groin injury

Tigers at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Tigers 4, Rangers 3

Moneyline

BET TIGERS (-110).

Skubal has picked up wins in 3 of his last 4 starts and is facing a Rangers offense that possesses the 6th-lowest OBP vs. LHP in MLB. The AL Cy Young favorite (+200 at FanDuel Sportsbook) also leads the AL in outside-the-zone swing percentage (31.7%) and was masterful in his last start. I am expecting a similar result Monday.

Another path to victory for Detroit is by swiping bases. LF Riley Greene, who went 7-for-15 with a HR and 2 stolen bases in the Boston series, could take advantage of a Rangers team that allows the 3rd-most opponent stolen bases per game (0.85) in the AL.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

This is too much juice to lay on the Rangers getting a run and a half. I am also not interested in laying a run and a half against the defending World Series champs in Arlington.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 7.5 (-120).

This is a stud pitching matchup, and as long as Eovaldi does not run into any major trouble, this game should move quickly and finish under the total. Rangers games have gone Over just twice in their last 13 played, and even if it was against the lowly Marlins, combining for 18 shutout innings is impressive. Plus, Tigers SS Javier Baez went 1-for-12 vs. the Red Sox and features a paltry .191 batting average.
