Detroit Lions Week 17 injury declarations: Matthew Stafford, Frank Ragnow questionable

Examining the Detroit Lions injury declarations for their Wek 17 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Detroit Lions (5-10) have announced their injury declarations for their Week 17 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings (6-9) and while the Lions have ruled out three players, Matthew Stafford and Frank Ragnow appear likely to play.

Here’s a look at the Lions’ latest injury report, with the updated changes listed in bold.

Ruled OUT

Player Injury Wednesday Thursday Friday
Kenny Golladay Hip No Practice No Practice No Practice
Tyrell Crosby Ankle Limited Practice No Practice No Practice
Joe Dahl Back No Practice No Practice No Practice

After yesterday’s press conference it was clear Golladay’s season was over, and now with Crosby and Dahl also ruled out, their season comes to a close as well.

Hal Vaitai will continue to start at right tackle in place of Crosby, and Dahl’s absence will leave a vacancy at center behind Frank Ragnow. Expect practice squad center Evan Brown to either be signed or elevated on Saturday as insurance at the position.

Questionable

Player Injury Wednesday Thursday Friday
Matthew Stafford Right thumb, ribs, ankle No Practice Limited Practice Limited Practice
Frank Ragnow Throat Limited Practice Limited Practice Limited Practice
Jamie Collins Neck No Practice No Practice Limited Practice

“Well there was no setback,” Interim coach Darrell Bevell said of Stafford in his pre-practice presser. “He’s still improving. I mean, he’s sore, he has some issues going on, but he was out there. He didn’t do a ton, but he was limited in practice. So, see how he goes today and what it feels like tomorrow.”

While he’s not out of the woods yet, it’d be a shock if Stafford missed this game.

Ragnow talked with the media today — talked (!) — which is usually a precursor to him returning to game action. He was in good spirits and appears ready to play on Sunday.

Collins practiced for the first time in two weeks today, and while that is a good sign for his availability, things could still go either way at this point. This could come down to a game-time decision.

No Injury Designation

Player Injury Wednesday Thursday Friday
Danny Amendola Non-injury related No Practice No Practice Full Practice

Amendola returned to practice today and doesn’t carry an injury designation into the game. He’s good to go.

Injured reserve

Unless any of these three are activated on Saturday, their seasons will also come to a close.
