Details of David Mayo’s contract with Giants revealed

The Giants’ reported three-year deal with David Mayo is for $8.4 million.

It was reported on Friday night that the New York Giants and inside linebacker David Mayo agreed to a three-year deal, but the financials were not part of that report.

Well, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the three-year pact is worth $8.4 million.

Mayo was an unexpectedly solid contributor for the Giants in 2019, helping add some stability to the inside linebacker position.

The former fifth-round pick of the Carolina Panthers out of Texas St. played in all 16 games for the Giants (13 starts) and totaled 82 tackles (five for loss), good enough for second-most on the team. Mayo also added two sacks, two passes defensed and one fumble recovered.

In the coming days, the Giants will have to turn their attention to free agency, with the legal tampering period beginning on March 16 and the official start of free agency on March 18.

Whatever of the several needs the Giants don’t fill in free agency this month, they will address in the 2020 NFL Draft, staring on April 23.
