The Auburn Tigers made history Sunday when for the second year in a row, they were named a host for the NCAA Regionals. Despite being the No. 13 seed in the tournament the Tigers are no longer ranked in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll released on Monday.
The Tigers fell out of the pool after going 1-2 at the SEC Tournament with back-to-back losses to Vanderbilt and Alabama. They didn’t fall far though, their 148 points slot them in at No. 26 in the ranking and just 1 point behind No. 25 Maryland.
Despite struggling in Hoover, Auburn has one of the best teams in the second half of the season, finishing with a 12-3 record in SEC play, and winning matchups against No. 6 LSU and No. 18 South Carolina.
The SEC was once again well-represented in the poll, putting eight teams in the top 25. Florida (No. 2), Arkansas (No. 3), Vanderbilt (No. 4) and LSU (No. 6) all cracked the top 10 with Tennessee (No. 16), South Carolina (No. 18), Kentucky (No. 21) and Alabama (No. 23) also being ranked.
