In his praise of Amar’e Stoudemire, Jarrett Allen has said Steve Nash’s former Suns teammate turned Brooklyn Nets player development assistant sometimes looks like he’s ready to get in on the action. Well, during his discussion about the next step in his career with Marc Stein of the New York Times, Stoudemire didn’t exactly turn the page on the previous chapter of his basketball life.
“Stoudemire emphasized, for the record, that he had not formally retired as a player,” Stein wrote.
Furthermore, Stoudemire expressed it’s unclear the direction he wants to go in with his career.
“I never really thought much about coaching, to be honest with you,” Stoudemire said.
Turns out, he also doesn’t like the idea of being called “coach.”
“I just never liked the title ‘coach,'” Stoudemire told Stein. “There’s not a lot of swagger that comes with that title. I’m still not quite there yet. I’m still very young, and I like to feel young.”
With the opportunity Nash and the Nets have given him in Brooklyn, Stoudemire has the chance to figure out exactly what he’d like to do next while working in the game he loves, allowing him to work more at his pace.
