Derrick Henry isn’t pitching Tom Brady: ‘Why isn’t Ryan Tannehill good enough?’

“Why would we not want Ryan back?”

Derrick Henry and Tom Brady are set to enter free agency in 2020, but the Tennessee Titans running back isn’t exactly appealing to the New England Patriots quarterback for a rendezvous.

Henry was asked how he’d feel about the Titans bringing in Brady during the offseason.

“I would think: Why isn’t Ryan Tannehill good enough?” Henry told the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, via Bleacher Report.

Tannehill, also a pending free agent, had the best season of his career after taking over as the starter in Tennessee in Week 7. In 11 games and 10 starts, he had a 7-3 record with a 70.3 completion percentage, 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Henry’s comments shouldn’t be misinterpreted as shade or a snub. The running back is simply staying loyal to Tannehill, who was a crucial contributor through the regular season and postseason.

“Tom Brady is the GOAT,” Henry said. “That is no question. At all. The best of all time. But then, at the same time, I mean, Ryan Tannehill is our quarterback, went to the AFC Championship. Why would we not want Ryan back? Just wanted to clear that up, Tom Brady is the GOAT.”

Henry added: “(Brady) can still play. Obviously, age doesn’t matter for him, he’s still playing at a high level, but my question would be: Why ain’t Ryan good enough, you know?”

Tannehill’s Titans bumped Brady’s Patriots from the playoffs at Gillette Stadium during the wild-card round, and Tennessee made an appearance in AFC championship, where they lost the Kansas City Chiefs, the Super Bowl winners.

In December, ESPN reported the Titans were interested in extending Tannehill’s deal to make him their franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future. But perhaps the free agent class of quarterbacks, which includes Mike Vrabel’s friend and former teammate Brady, has slowed those negotiations.
