Denny Hamlin says NASCAR will return to the Indianapolis oval in 2024

NASCAR will return to the oval layout at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2024, according to Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin.

[autotag]Denny Hamlin[/autotag] is not one to shy away from controversy, whether that is battling hard on the race track or discussing the events on his podcast, Actions Detrimental. Needless to say, Hamlin has become a main character in NASCAR and that is good for everyone.

In fact, the driver of the No. 11 car has given interesting bits of information over the last few months. For example, Hamlin previously said NASCAR is exploring the idea of grooved tires to take some of the contact patch off the road. This would allow the drivers to slip and slide more.

However, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver revealed another interesting piece of information regarding the future of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which is entering its third year of being run on the road course layout.

“Next year, we are going to go back to the (Indianapolis Motor Speedway) oval, more than likely next year,” Hamlin said. “It’s a must for sure. It’s a major, no matter whether you like the racing or not. We’ll get a major back next year.”

This would be a major development as NASCAR has lacked a fourth Crown Jewel event and the racing on the road course has not been great. The first two races at the circuit have led to mass chaos in the closing laps due to the layouts of Turn 1 and other crucial corners.

NASCAR will enter this weekend looking for a successful showing on the road course in Indianapolis but it will be hard to fully focus on the event with the Brickyard 400’s possible return on the horizon.
