DeMar DeRozan on Zach LaVine’s 39-point performance: “He carried us’

LaVine led the Bulls to a play-in victory on Wednesday vs. Toronto.

The Chicago Bulls are just one win away from securing the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

On Wednesday night, the Bulls fought back from a 19-point deficit to comeback and beat the Toronto Raptors, 109-105, to move on to the final play-in on Friday.

Chicago was led by Zach LaVine, who scored a game-high 39 points, including 30 in the second half, to help drag the Bulls to victory, and his running mate DeMar DeRozan knows that.

“Amazing. He carried us,” DeRozan said of LaVine. “Was aggressive, downhill — he put his will on the game and we all followed behind that…that’s why he is who he is.”

It was in the third quarter when LaVine began catching fire, scoring 17 points to cut Toronto’s lead to just nine points. In the fourth, LaVine scored another 13 points to cap off the comeback win.

“Not many people in this league has the talent he has…I know how hard he works, how much he cares about the game,” DeRozan said. “He’s a hell of a person. Was a fan of him before I came to Chicago, and now to share every moment with him means a lot.”

Chicago could sure use a repeat performance from LaVine on Friday as they fight for their playoff lives against the Miami Heat.
