DeForest Buckner sees a hungry Colts defense in 2020

DeForest Buckner talks about joining the Colts.

Whenever the Indianapolis Colts will be able to get together on the field again, plenty of eyes will be on the shiny new acquisition in the form of defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.

The Colts have high hopes that he will provide a massive boost not just for the defensive line but for the entire defensive unit. Buckner himself feels the Colts have a talented defense and one that has already shown how hungry it is to prove itself.

“I’m very excited with the group that is going to be around me. I can see that all the guys are hungry. It’s going to be fun,” Buckner told Ian Rapoport on the RapSheet + Friends podcast. “Last year with the Niners we had a lot of talented guys to rush the passer and everything. I think we can do the same thing out here in Indy.”

Buckner has been a huge part of the 49ers defense since he was taken early in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He will be working at the three-technique where the Colts believe is the engine of the defense.

The Colts have a lot of faith in Buckner’s talent, so much that they immediately inked him to a four-year contract extension worth $84 million after trading a first-round pick for him.

The defense for the Colts took a step back in 2019, mostly due to injuries. However, the group is maturing and now with the addition of Buckner, this hungry unit can begin making consistent strides.
