PHILADELPHIA — Young Philadelphia 76ers guard Jaden Springer is set to enter his third season in the league. The No. 28 pick in the 2021 NBA draft is looking to earn a spot in the rotation under new coach Nick Nurse.
Known mostly for his defensive work, Springer has earned the respect of his teammates for the work he has put in on the floor. In the preseason opener with the Boston Celtics on Oct. 8, he had 14 points and knocked down two triples. He is looking to build off that showing.
“He’s an ox,” veteran teammate De’Anthony Melton said of Springer. “He’s so strong and compact. He’s getting there. I love the way he’s attacking every day. I love the way he’s trying to get better no matter what.”
Springer has gained valuable experience in the G League, and he has shown his obvious improvements in the summer league as well at the NBA level. Melton is among those that have seen it from his younger teammate.
“I would say just how he’s getting to the rack stronger and finishing and also his jump shooting,” Melton said of his improvement. “I feel like that’s something everybody can get better on. Jump shooting and stuff like that. I think he’s really attacking, and he’s really wanting to get better at it.”
