DeAndre Hopkins wants you to know he isn’t holding out

Despite the speculation from one publication, his hamstring injury is just that — a minor hamstring issue.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is expected to get a new contract or contract extension with the team at some point. It was part of the reason why he was traded from the Houston Texans. However, he wants you to know there is no dispute.

He has missed the last couple of practices with a minor hamstring issue and one site speculated that perhaps he is using the injury as a holdout.

Hopkins made it clear he is not, taking it to social media once he ran across the story.

The hamstring injury is not a ruse to cover for unhappiness that a new deal has not been agreed to.

Hopkins has three years remaining on his current deal but there is no guaranteed money left. He will make $12.5 million this year, $13.5 million in 2021 and more than $13.9 million in 2022. However, he wishes to be paid like the top receiver he is in the league. The Cardinals knew this when they acquired him.

Hopkins will be back on the practice field soon. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said it was more precautionary than anything. Taking two or three days off now is better than having a more serious strain or pull happen that would sideline him for weeks.

But, no, he is not holding out until his contract extension is done, and he wants that to be made clear.
