DeAndre Baker’s attorney expects criminal case to be dropped

The attorney for New York Giants CB DeAndre Baker feels his case has been “won” and that a dismissal should be coming soon.

New York Giants second-year cornerback DeAndre Baker is currently going through some legal issues stemming from his arrest last month on robbery and assault charges in Florida.

But due to the inconsistent evidence and witness accounts surrounding the case, Baker could be off the hook as early as this week according to his lawyer Patrick G. Patel.

“As soon this dismissal goes (through), he’s going to head back to Jersey and start practicing,” Patel told SNY. “If it becomes a charge, then the NFL will suspend him. So the Giants are really just playing it cool right now, which is the right thing to do. Just do nothing until the state makes a decision on what they’re going to do.”

Baker is out on $200,000 bail and is free to travel to New Jersey to participate in any activities the Giants are currently running, or set to run. The club has told Baker that he is to steer clear of any team-related activities, including virtual meetings and workouts, until his legal issues are cleared.

“I think we’ve got the case won, to be honest with you,” said Patel. “I think it’s only a matter of time. But it’s the kid’s life. This kid will get suspended and lose his job, and then the case gets dismissed and what have we done? So everybody’s taking a wait and see approach.”

The Giants are slowly letting personnel back into their facility, but players will likely be the last to report and that will likely be at the end of July when training camp begins.

The 22-year-old Baker, if exonerated, may still be suspended by the league for violating the personal conduct policy, so his future remains cloudy at the moment.
