David Pollock thinks Jayden Daniels makes LSU feared in the SEC West

David Pollack likes Jayden Daniels’ potential if he can take another step as a passer.

LSU has a lot of talent returning in 2023, but there are plenty of talented teams in the SEC.

What really sets the Tigers apart from every other contender in the league is the quarterback position. LSU brings back a proven starter in [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag], who could wind up being one of the best signal-callers in the country this season.

It wasn’t all good last season for the Arizona State transfer. He had a bit of a learning curve when he first arrived in the SEC, but by the end of the season, he was a force to be reckoned with.

That’s the sentiment longtime former ESPN analyst David Pollock shared during a recent appearance on “Always College Football.”

“Jayden Daniels, man? I remember watching the first game last year. I remember thinking, ‘He ain’t got a clue how to play quarterback,’” Pollack said, per On3. “Like, he did not know how to sit in the pocket, go through progressions, and really make you pay. With all these weapons on the outside, all this speed? I’m like, dude, if you would just be patient and go through it!

“At the end of the season, you started to see that. Less scrambling for his life, he started to have a better feel for the game, started to make more plays down the field. Like, if that guy takes the next step? And, listen, he’s second on the Heisman list as favorites. That gives you an idea because he had 800 yards scrambling. He’s going to do a lot of damage with his feet.”

As Pollack said, there are no questions about Daniels’ ability with the ball in his hands. If he can develop more as a passer, he will truly be a weapon. Pollack said that prospect should be striking fear into the hearts of other SEC West teams.

“If they take that next leap, if he takes that next leap and finishes where he starts off? I think LSU would be the team in the West that I would probably be most scared of,” Pollack said.

The Tigers will hope Daniels lives up to the hype as he enters his fifth overall season as a starting quarterback.
