With the recent events surrounding Michigan basketball recruiting, many fans wondered aloud if point guard David DeJulius, who surprised many by entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal this month, could ultimately opt to return to Ann Arbor.

CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein threw some water on that fire however, further noting that DeJulius was intent to make his college decision on Thursday at noon EST.

He entered Thursday with four finalists: Marquette, Cincinnati, Iowa State and Missouri, but with fellow Big Ten point guard transfer DJ Carton selecting Marquette on Wednesday, DeJulius’ final four became a final three.

And on Thursday, DeJulius chose to join the Cincinnati Bearcats.

In 2019-20, DeJulius played in 31 games for an average of 21 minutes-per-game. He scored 7 points-per-game and averaged 1.5 assists-per-game as well. DeJulius was a former four-star recruit from Detroit (MI) East English Village Prep.

On Tuesday, DeJulius posted a goodbye letter to Michigan fans via his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

He was anticipated to be Michigan’s starting point guard this upcoming season and beyond, but with his departure, the Wolverines secured Columbia transfer Mike Smith.

DeJulius will have two years of eligibility remaining, but unless he obtains a waiver from the NCAA, will have to sit a year due to transfer rules.
