D’Anton Lynn played a central role in getting two defensive transfers for USC

D’Anton Lynn landed the Arnold brothers.

The main job of a defensive coordinator is to coach a defense. Knowing Xs and Os inside and out, and being able to fit a scheme to a given set of personnel, is the main task for a play-caller. Yes, coordinators should be involved in recruiting, but if the coordinator can master the tactics, other members of the coaching staff can do more to recruit. This is how a full coaching staff can generate the on-field results while keeping the recruiting machine humming on the trail.

It certainly helps, however, when the coordinator can make a significant difference in recruiting.

That is what USC defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn did in bringing the Arnold brothers from Oregon State to Los Angeles.

Luca Evans of the Southern California News Group had more on the story of how linebacker Easton Mascarenas-Arnold and safety Akili Arnold transferred from Oregon State to USC.

“To me, personally, what really brought it home was Coach Lynn,” said Junior Arnold, the father of the two brothers.

That’s a pretty clear indication of D’Anton Lynn’s role in convincing the Arnold brothers to become Trojans.
