D’Anton Lynn makes first in-home visit as USC defensive coordinator

This is a big first test for D’Anton Lynn at USC.

Four-star cornerback Marcelles Williams committed to USC back on June 18 over Oklahoma and UCLA. Now Lincoln Riley and new defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn are making sure he stays home.

“It was just home and the relationship I had built with Coach Donte was second to none,” Williams told On3 upon his commitment. “USC is on the rise and watch out these next couple years.”

Keeping Marcelles Williams is a big recruiting win for the Trojans. Listed at 5-11, 185 pounds, Williams is rated four stars, the No. 8 California recruit, No. 9 cornerback, and No. 73 prospect overall in the Class of 2024.

Marcelles’ older brother Max is entering his sixth season with the Trojans and will play alongside Marcelles in 2024.

D’Anton Lynn’s ability to retain existing recruits, add new recruits in Southern California, and entice transfer portal prospects to come to USC is a big storyline for the Trojans right now. Many people felt — and still feel — that Alex Grinch prevented USC from landing bigger fish in the transfer portal and on the recruiting trail. Lynn’s ability to boost the talent level and the amount of depth on the defensive side of the ball is a crucial first test of his impact at USC. It’s definitely something to watch in the coming days and weeks.
