Danny Ainge was a onetime Los Angeles Lakers fan: Surprises about the former Celtics president

Fans of the Boston Celtics are by and large familiar with the tale of how Celtics Hall of Fame small forward Paul Pierce grew up a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers as a native of greater L.A. But, in a recent interview with the Players Tribune “Knuckleheads” podcast, former Boston President of Basketball Operations and champion shooting guard Danny Ainge let it slip he grew up a Lakers fan, too.

Despite growing up as a Lakers fan, Ainge joined the Celtics as a player in the early 1980s, becoming an integral part of the fierce rivalry between the league’s two most storied ball clubs.
