Daniel Jones throwing ugly picks in the NFL preseason should sound the alarms for the Giants

Daniel Jones might be a problem for the Giants this season.

Should the New York Giants be worried about quarterback Daniel Jones? Y’now, like actually worried and not in the usual way that a team would be worried about Jones starting for their football team.

While injuries didn’t help his cause last year, Jones has dropped off from his resurgent 2022 season and looked absolutely miserable during his team’s preseason game against the Houston Texans on Saturday.

Jones threw two dreadful picks to two Texans players during Saturday’s preseason struggles, one for a pick-6 to safety Jalen Pitre and another to cornerback Derek Stingley while the Giants were in the red zone.

If Jones was a reserve quarterback, he’d be sweating this type of performance as trying to lock down a roster spot with his team. As an assumed starter playing in August, this is more than a little bothersome if you’re a Giants fan.

The odds are low that New York will do anything but stick with Jones to start the season, if only because the team doesn’t really have any other good options right now outside of maybe signing Ryan Tannehill.

However, with the money Jones is making, he’s got to be the guy for the Giants for New York to be even halfway decent this fall. Laying an egg like this in August doesn’t exactly build a lot of confidence for that.
