Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley nominated for FedEx Players of the Week

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones and RB Saquon Barkley have been nominated for FedEx Player of the Week awards.

The New York Giants scored a season-high 41 points in Week 16 against the Washington Redskins and racked up a total of 552 yards on offense, the most ever on the road in their history.

They can thank rookie quarterback Daniel Jones and second-year running back Saquon Barkley for the explosion. Both players have been nominated the weekly FedEx awards for outstanding offensive performances.

Jones was nominated for FedEx Air Player of the Week for his 352 yards passing and five touchdowns. He became the first NFL rookie to throw for over 350 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. Also nominated for the award are New Orleans’ Drew Brees and Ryan Fitzpatrick of Miami.

Barkley, nominated for FedEx Ground Player of the Week, rushed for 189 yards and a touchdown and added another touchdown and 90 yards through the air. His 279 yards from scrimmage set a new franchise mark for a single game breaking the previous record of 276 yards was set by Tiki Barber vs. Philadelphia on Dec. 28, 2002.

“When I was drafted, I went to Rao’s with Tiki and I told him that I was going to break all of his records,” Barkley said. “Not in a disrespectful way, but basically coming from a respectful way that it’s my goal that I want to be great like you one day. He gave me a lot of advice, gave me a lot of motivation. You know, he’s a great dude.”
