NFL Draft insider Daniel Jeremiah has consistently mocked offensive tackles to the New York Giants at No. 4 overall since the start of the year, and with the 2020 NFL Draft inching ever closer, he’s holding true to that belief.
During a conference call on Thursday, Jeremiah told reporters that he “absolutely thinks” the Giants should and will go offense in Round 1.
“I absolutely think the Giants should go offense in the first round,” Jeremiah said. “I think they should go tackle. They need to protect Daniel Jones.
“I know things are not good on defense, but offensive tackle is the place you have to go at number four to both help Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley. And I’d round back and go offense in the second-round again or a cornerback like Jaylon Johnson.”
Over the past few months, Jeremiah has mocked both Louisville’s Mekhi Becton and Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs to the Giants, but now believes they may be trending towards Alabama’s Jedrick Wills Jr.
“I’ve said Wirfs for a while,” Jeremiah said. “As we come down the stretch I’m beginning to think it’s Jedrick Wills.”
Wills to the Giants has certainly picked up steam in recent days and seems to be the hot new trend, but there’s no way of knowing how things will play out at No. 4.
Either way, Jeremiah now believes that Wills has leap-frogged Wirfs in the offensive tackle rankings, but that Becton still has the highest upside.
“God didn’t make many like this,” Jeremiah said of Becton.
Jeremiah has Becton as the No. 7 prospect on his big board, with Wills checking in at No. 10, Wirfs at No. 13 and Georgia’s Andrew Thomas at No. 18.
