Dan Mullen tosses barb at former program

Ahead of Florida’s Saturday game with Tennessee, former coach Dan Mullen said the team “might not be where they were” when he was in Gainesville

Dan Mullen spoke to ESPN’s Matt Barrie ahead of Florida’s Saturday night rivalry match with Tennessee, and he couldn’t resist taking a swipe at his former program.

“Florida might not be where they were a couple of years ago,” Mullen said.

Mullen was fired by the Gators near the end of the 2021 season. He went 34-15 as the head of UF’s program, but he went 5-6 in his final season and was fired before the final game. Fans bemoaned his lack of attention on recruiting. He never finished higher than 9th in 247Sports’ recruiting rankings.

The Gators have been 8-9 in their 17 games since Mullen left the program, including back-to-back bowl losses.
