Dalvin Cook teasing a jersey number change on social media

Is Dalvin Cook returning to his roots?

Dalvin Cook has looked great wearing the No. 33 on the back of his jersey over the course of his five-year NFL career—three Pro Bowls, three consecutive 1,000-plus yard seasons and recognition as one of the best running backs in the game.

But imagine how good it would be if he wore No. 4. Whew!

The gears could be turning in the mind of the 26-year-old running back following multiple social media posts showing him wearing a Vikings jersey with the No. 4 on it. That was his original number before he was drafted to the NFL, when he was still playing at Florida State and his old stomping grounds at Miami Central High School.

The league rescinded a rule last year that kept offensive skilled position players, along with linebackers and defensive backs, from wearing single-digit numbers on their jerseys. However, the one caveat was that players “buy out the existing inventory of jersey distributors,” via ESPN’s Kevin Seifert.

That isn’t a big deal if you’re a less popular player, but if you’re a multiple-time Pro Bowler like Cook, it could set you back a pretty penny. Last April, ProFootballTalk reported the price range at somewhere close to $1.5 million for the running back.

Although Cook showed initial interest in making the change, he ultimately made the decision to stick with No. 33 for at least another season.

But going by his social media posts, it would seem as if he might have had a change of heart.
