Dalvin Cook could break Vikings’ single-season TD record

Cook could break Adrian Peterson’s single-season touchdown record.

It all seems pretty meaningless now that the Vikings are officially eliminated from playoff contention, but, history could still be made in Week 17 of the season against the Detroit Lions.

Running back Dalvin Cook has 17 total touchdowns (16 rushing, one receiving) on the season. He needs one touchdown to tie Adrian Peterson’s franchise record of 18 total touchdowns set back in 2009 and two to pass Peterson.

Of course, being the game is meaningless, the Vikings could choose to rest Cook, who has been an injury-prone player throughout his career.

Cook’s mark of 1,557 rushing yards ranks third in team history, 203 yards behind Peterson’s mark of 1,760 for second.

It also seems very likely that Cook will finish second in the league in rushing yards for the season. He’s currently 112 yards behind Derrick Henry and Henry has two games left to play while Cook has just one.
