CU Buffs are second-highest Pac-12 team in ESPN’s way-too-early men’s basketball top 25

Colorado was the second-highest Pac-12 team in ESPN’s way-too-early top 25

The Colorado Buffaloes missed the NCAA Tournament once again, and Tad Boyle’s team now begins an important offseason. The Buffs got hit hard in the transfer portal by losing two starters, but they began this one with a massive addition in TCU transfer center Eddie Lampkin Jr.

With the men’s college basketball season officially over following UConn’s national title, the way-too-early top 25 rankings for the upcoming 2023-24 season have been released, and the Buffs are No. 13 on the list and the second-highest in the Pac-12 only behind Arizona (h/t Jeff Borzello of ESPN).

We are all the way in on the Buffs’ bandwagon. They would have been in the top 25 even before Sunday’s commitment from TCU transfer Eddie Lampkin Jr. KJ Simpson and Tristan da Silva, if both return, give Tad Boyle two All-Pac-12 players to lead the way, and he’s adding potential lottery pick Cody Williams, a top-10 recruit. There’s a slew of role players also heading back to Boulder.

Borzello mentions the Buffs were already in his top 25 before the addition of Lamkin, and they just moved up. With a three-man core of Lampkin, Tristan da Silva and KJ Simpson, the Buffs have veteran talent. Add in top 2024 NBA draft prospect Cody Williams and the hype is even greater in Boulder.

The Buffs are ahead of USC, Final Four team Miami and UCLA, so this is a massive buy-in to the Buffs.

Deion Sanders has rejuvenated the football program, and now the Buffs men’s basketball team is going to enter the season with massive expectations. Let’s see if they can deliver.
