Texas is still looking to find some momentum with the 2023 recruiting class.
Although the Longhorns are in great position with several blue-chip prospects, there is only one commit in the class up to this point in four-star safety Jamel Johnson.
Over the last week, Texas has emerged as the favorite for several recruits in the 2023 class. Eric Nahlin entered a prediction in favor of the Longhorns for five-star quarterback Arch Manning, and 247Sports’ Mike Roach entered a crystal ball in favor of Texas for four-star offensive lineman Jaydon Chatman.
The positive news continues to roll in, as Roach also entered a crystal ball prediction in favor of Texas for four-star defensive lineman Avion Carter. The Amarillo native is rated the No. 13 defensive lineman in the 2023 class and the No. 17 overall prospect in the state of Texas, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

In 2021, Carter was named the Texas District 2-5A-I Defensive Player of the Year as a junior. He recorded 55 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and eight sacks for Tascosa High School.
On3 currently lists Texas and Texas Tech as the two leaders in his recruitment.
