Creed Humphrey’s placement in latest mock draft

Where Creed Humphrey is projected in latest mock draft

The 2021 NFL draft is just two weeks away. Teams around the league are finalizing draft boards based on scouting reports and player evaluations. The plethora of mock drafts are about to be a thing of the past as names are called from iconic downtown Cleveland locations.

In the latest Draft Wire second-round projections, Oklahoma’s Creed Humphrey was listed at No. 55 overall. The left-handed center is listed as the Pittsburgh’s Steelers selection.

Bolstering the offensive line is the number one priority for the Steelers. The Steelers have not invested heavily in the front unit in recent years and an upgrade is essential. The squad went 1-5 over the final six games of the 2020 season, in large part due to a nonexistent rushing attack and injuries sustained in the O-Line. The root of the issue has to be addressed and it starts in the trenches with run blocking.

The Steelers are big on athletic lineman based on their ability to move laterally and pull in certain protections. That is pivotal in an outside zone or in Pittsburgh’s gap/power scheme. Humphrey fits the bill. He was often tasked with executing pulls on counters and screens for Oklahoma.

Humphrey uses his frame to his advantage and anchored a line for one of the most explosive offenses in college football. He would be a valuable addition to the Steelers.

The team is in desperate need of a boost. Maurkice Pouncey retired and Matt Feiler, Zach Banner, and Alejandro Villanueva are free agents. It is time for a restructure. Humphrey could be the key.
