COVID-19 took Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes throwing challenge from us

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen says COVID-19 cancelled a throwing contest between him and Patrick Mahomes.

The Josh Allen vs. Patrick Mahomes throwing contest is a fire that had more fuel tossed on it again recently.

On Wednesday, Bills quarterback Josh Allen joined NFL Network’s Good Morning Football. Buffalo’s signal caller talked all things Bills training camp, but the ol’ debate topic between him and the reigning Super Bowl MVP was was thrown out there once again.

Allen didn’t back down, but while discussing potentially finally getting together with Mahomes to faceoff, head-to-head in a throwing challenge to see who has the stronger arm, Allen actually revealed that we should have already gotten the answer to this question.

But like many circumstances over the past few months… the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled it.

“One… yes, I’m game. We’re working on it. We had something in place actually, supposed to be going this summer but obviously some COVID restrictions had that kind of shut down. But yes, I’m game,” Allen said.

“I’d love to finally settle and figure it out, but we’ll have to figure out, whatever the case may be, it’s going to a good cause,” Allen added.

On the bright side, at least we’ll get an answer to this question, eventually. Not only because Allen wants to settle it, so does Mahomes. Following the release of player ratings in EA Sports’ Madden 21 video game, which revealed Allen has a stronger arm in the game, Mahomes was none to happy.

“Obviously Josh has an extremely strong arm but I’ve yet to see someone have a stronger arm than me,” Mahomes said on ESPN.

Originally this challenge goes back to an episode of the Barstool Sports podcast, Pardon My Take. Allen said on the show he would be in for the challenge first and Mahomes took to Twitter to accept. That was all the way back in February, but still… here we are… waiting.

And for what it’s worth, Allen and Mahomes to face each other for the first time in 2020. The Chiefs travel to the Bills for Thursday Night Footbal in Week 6. That one is likely happening first.
