Fans of the Boston Celtics are rightfully tired of seeing Jaylen Brown’s name in trade rumors, but that isn’t stopping NBA analysts from trying to see where the star Celtics forward might fit into the future landscape of the league. And with the situation with the Dallas Mavericks looking more unstable than ever in the wake of trading for Kyrie Irving, potential landing spots for superstar wing Luka Doncic are all the vogue — and touching on a trade for Brown.
CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn suggests that such a swap could make sense for both parties in the future — but only if certain scenarios play out. “If the Celtics were willing to explore a Jaylen Brown-for-Kevin Durant swap last summer, they’d be willing to consider a similar deal for Doncic,” suggests Quinn.
“However, this is a somewhat messy situation for the Celtics to practically navigate,” he adds in something of an understatement. “Brown has made it clear that he’s sensitive to the frequent trade rumors that have followed him for his entire NBA career.”

If the Georgia native hasn’t extended his current deal by the end of the offseason, the CBS Sports analyst thinks asking about a sign-and-trade to Dallas would be unlikely given the optics it’d signal to Brown, “compelling him to potentially leave as a free agent.”
In the scenario it could make sense, “Boston would have to get Brown signed to an extension” and the team hasn’t won a title with him, “the idea of exploring a Brown and picks for Doncic swap makes plenty of sense.”
When there are this many “ifs” involved, it’s wise not to put too much into such a scenario actually playing out as Quinn is right to suggest. But such flashy, fireworks-esque deals always capture the imagination nonetheless.
