Could the Big 12 Conference land the top two quarterbacks in the 2023 recruiting class?

Could the Big 12 Conference setting up to see an arms race in 2023 between Oklahoma and Texas?

When the Texas Longhorns hired Steve Sarkisian to replace Tom Herman, it was expected that they would be able to bring in better talent at the quarterback position. Who doesn’t love a good ole quarterback arms race among bitter rivals?

The Oklahoma Sooners have signed the top quarterback of the class in two of the last three cycles with Spencer Rattler (2019) and Caleb Williams (2021). For the 2023 class, they have their sights set on Los Alamitos’ Malachi Nelson. He is set to make his commitment on July 18. The Sooners are viewed as the leaders for his pledge according to his crystal ball predictions.

Nelson is the No. 1 player in the state of California and the No. 2 quarterback for the 2023 class. He is just behind Arch Manning although they have the same exact rating of 0.9988. It is quite possible that both of these signal-callers could be heading to the Big 12 Conference.

According to Longhorns Wire, the No. 1 overall quarterback in the class is set to visit Austin.

The five-star only has reported 11 offers according to 247Sports. Texas is among those and according to a recent report, Manning will be in Austin this summer.

Texas currently has a commit in the 2022 class from five-star quarterback Maalik Murphy, but if you can get a player with the lineage of Arch Manning you put all those chips on the table.

Manning facing off with Nelson would be quite the quarterback battle. While it wouldn’t last long, those would be must-watch games with two of the top passers in the nation going head to head.
