On Monday, the National Football League announced that the Philadelphia Eagles will be the designated team in the historic first-ever regular season game played in Brazil, as part of the 2024 International Games.
The New York Giants are among nine possible opponents for the game along with the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, and Green Bay Packers.
The game, which will be played on Friday, September 6, 2024, is the first time the NFL has played a game on a Friday night of their opening weekend in over 50 years. The last was when the St. Louis Cardinals faced off against the Rams in Los Angeles on September 18, 1970.
The game will be hosted by the city of São Paulo at the Corinthians Arena, home to Brazilian soccer team SC Corinthians, a 49,000-seat venue that has hosted World Cup soccer games.
The Eagles’ opponent, along with more details of the game, including the kickoff time, will be announced closer to when the 2024 NFL schedule is announced this spring.
A quick note: The Panthers are already scheduled to play an international game (in Munich) and the Jaguars will play twice in London this season. That increases the odds for the Giants in terms of being named an opponent for this game.
