Could a big trade be coming for the Steelers?

The Steelers made a big trade in 2019 after a slow start. Could we see a repeat in 2023?

Back in 2019, the Pittsburgh Steelers lost quarterback Ben Roethlisberger early in the second game of the season and all seemed lost. The offense fell apart and there was no fixing it.

So the Steelers didn’t even try. Instead, they made a huge trade for a defensive star instead. Rather than use the trade to maybe give a woeful Steelers offense a nudge, they went out and got safety Minkah Fitzpatrick who literally took the Steelers defense to another level.

Pittsburgh is now sitting at 1-1 and this is only because the defense found a way to score two touchdowns last week against the Cleveland Browns. If the Steelers offense can’t get on track this week, Pittsburgh might be hoping for a Fitzpatrick-type of move again but this time on the offensive side of the football.

We considered a copy of the 2019 formula where the Steelers added strength to strength and this could be the case but the main difference is this offense has more talent on it than that 2019 group. Top to bottom, the skill-position players on this team are well ahead of guys like James Conner, James Washington, Vance McDonald and Jaylen Samuels.

So what position would be the target? It almost has to be offensive line. Despite the addition of Isaac Seumalo and Broderick Jones, this group is playing some terrible football. Maybe the Steelers work a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars to bring in offensive tackle Cam Robinson or maybe the New Orleans Saints would be willing with utility lineman Andrus Peat. This front office has proven to be aggressive. If things fall apart on Sunday night, don’t be shocked to see some big moves next week.
