Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean is having a pretty successful week at the NFL combine, despite not being able to perform in the athletic tests quite yet.
As you’ll hear throughout this entire offseason, the combine is much more than just the underwear Olympics on the field. It’s one of the first chances these teams get to meet with these players, talk to them, and really get to know them. The interviews are what truly matter in Indianapolis this weekend.
For DeJean, still recovering from a season-ending injury, he’s making the most out of his combine trip. It was reported on Saturday that DeJean currently has a top-30 visit lined up with the Philadelphia Eagles. He is also drawing interest from the San Francisco 49ers, the Seattle Seahawks, the New Orleans Saints, and the Green Bay Packers.

While the term “top-30 visit” is a bit misleading—it does not actually indicate that the team identifies the player as a top-30 prospect in the draft—it does show a significant amount of interest by the Eagles to use one of their 30 visits to interview DeJean.
Currently holding the 22nd overall pick, the Eagles could view the Iowa defensive back as a massive upgrade. If you watched any of the Eagles last year, then you know that they need as much help as they can get on defense. Even as they bring back starting cornerback Darius Slay and some other interesting pieces in Isaiah Rodgers and Kelee Ringo, drafting a standout corner certainly wouldn’t hurt.
Many are not sure what exactly DeJean is in the NFL. Is he an outside corner? Does he move to the slot? Is he a safety? Or, is he some kind of hybrid defensive back piece.
The good thing is in this case, Philadelphia kind of needs help in all of those different roles. New defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has had a track record of fantastic defensive back play during his NFL career. Could DeJean be next?
